Summer Haircare Tips

Summer is one of our favorite times of the year. We love the long days and warm nights but did you know summer can wreak havoc on your hair? That summer sun that gives a nice golden glow to your skin also fades our hair color and washes out our highlights.

As the temperature rises, your hair may need some extra care to stay healthy and vibrant during the summer months. Here are some tips to help you maintain beautiful hair all summer long:

  1. Hydrate Inside and Out: Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day. Hydration is crucial for healthy hair, especially in hot weather. Also, use hydrating hair products like leave-in conditioners or hair masks to nourish and moisturize your strands!

  2. Protect Your Hair from UV Rays: The sun is the number 1 culprit of your hair color fading and it doesn’t take long for it to happen. Just like your skin, your hair can suffer from sun damage. Wear a hat or scarf when spending extended periods in the sun to shield your hair from harmful UV rays. You can also use hair products containing UV filters for added protection.

  3. Minimize Heat Styling: Give your hair a break from heat styling tools like blow dryers, flat irons, and curling wands. Embrace your natural texture or opt for heat-free styling methods like air-drying or braiding. This helps prevent heat damage and keeps your hair healthier in the long run.

  4. Deep Condition Regularly: Treat your hair to deep conditioning treatments once or twice a week to replenish moisture lost from sun exposure and swimming. Our favorite deep conditioning masks are Kerastase Nutritive Masque.

  5. Rinse out pool or salt water as soon as possible: Saltwater can be quite drying to both your hair and scalp. The salt in the water can strip away natural oils from your hair, leaving it feeling dry, brittle, and prone to breakage. Chlorine can strip away natural oils from your hair, causing it to become dry, frizzy, and prone to damage.
